"Afternoon Sun" 11"x 14" Oil This is an image I've been thinking about painting over the summer but never got around to doing.Well recently I decided it was time. I worked from a photo, however, I've studied this pose for sometime during a plein air class I was teaching. I knew it well. My goal was to keep the painting simple and fresh trying not to overworking it. Artist Statement: I paint the things that I experience and find visual interesting. Generally, I'm a plein-air painter and work in both oil and pastels. Subject matter certainly plays an important part of why I paint but secretly its more about the light, design (values) and color. Painting is actually about the relationships of these elements in the painting more than it is about the painting of things.
